Direct Support Professional (DSP)

The role of a Direct Support Professional (DSP) is made up of several sub-categories of jobs. A DSP may perform some or all of these jobs. While every DSP has the ability to choose not to work a particular service, limiting services provided may restrict the ability to schedule the DSP. Each service has a different description of duties as well as a rate of pay. They are outlined for you below. The DSP position is considered part-time and allows for a flexible schedule. The position may be performed onsite at a client's home or at a variety of locations in the community, depending on the service being provided. An employee can work at Easterseals Alaska as a DSP, Personal Care Assistant (PCA), or Job Coach simultaneously. 

All Jobs Require:

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Must be a minimum of 18 years of age.
• No convictions of abuse, neglect, or any other crime that would pose a threat or health risk to clients or their families.
• Meet the requirements as provided by the Department of Senior Services and/or the Department of Health & Social Services
• Possess the ability to communicate effectively with the client, family, and your supervisor.
• Possess the ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with clients, family, and Easterseals staff.
• Possess sound judgement and deliver quality care.
• Must have the ability to work on an individual basis or closely with a team.
• Completion of note charting/documentation of client's progress legibly, accurately, and timely.
• Must obtain a First Aid and CPR certification through an approved provider.
• Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
• Provide care that allows the client respect and dignity in all situations.

All information, written and verbal, pertaining to Easterseals clients and their families is to be treated as privileged, confidential, highly personal information and shall be shared only with Easterseals consultants and parents/guardians with a legitimate need to know. Violation of this HIPAA policy will be grounds for termination of employment.
