Caring for a loved one? You’re not alone.

More than a quarter of U.S. adults provide care for a family member or friend each year. Easterseals Alaska is here to support you with programs and resources designed to help you give the best possible care to your child, spouse, parent, or another loved one who needs daily support.

We provide a variety of programs to help the ones you care about most. These programs may be funded through Medicaid waiver, Medicaid, private insurance, or private pay. 

Children

Easterseals Alaska is working to create a world where:

• Each child born with a disability is given the support necessary to participate fully in life and to have dreams and hopes, successes and achievements.
• Parents of a newly-diagnosed child with a disability are aware of the services and resources available to them and get unimpeded access to all necessary services.
• Children with disabilities are recognized by all as having vital contributions to make to our society.
• Communities value and support children with disabilities and their families.
• Access to appropriate childcare is available for children with special needs.
• Families benefit from innovations and new technologies that help children with disabilities be as independent as possible.

Adults

For decades, Easterseals Alaska’s Adult Services have put hope within reach for thousands of adults. Easterseals Alaska provides a variety of home and community-based services affording adults and seniors opportunities to live, learn, work, and play as a vital part of their own community or neighborhood. These programs put hope within reach for adults with a developmental disability, persons with Alzheimer’s disease or other forms of dementia, as well as individuals with Multiple Sclerosis, or those who have had a stroke. In addition, these valuable programs offer respite, support, and education for family members and other caregivers.

Seniors

For many aging adults and seniors, it can be difficult to handle a household, manage daily tasks, and take care of themselves. At Easterseals Alaska, we provide a variety of elder care services aimed at making it easier to handle these daily responsibilities. 
 

In the next decade, over 71 million Americans will be 65 years of age and older. With the increasing number of older persons and persons with lifelong disabilities living longer, we will see a broader demand for home and community-based services. These services will help manage activities of daily living that may be limited as a result of acute or chronic conditions and will keep people integrated in their communities.  

Veterans

The needs of veterans and military families are evolving, not disappearing. That's why Easterseals is working to meet the needs of veterans and military families, particularly with employment, job training, and support like family respite opportunities. We work to make solutions easily accessible in communities. We are proudly working directly with the VA to provide local Alaskan Veterans with Home Health Services and Respite Care.

Caregivers

Do you manage your aging mother’s bills? Take your grandfather to the grocery store each week? Or take time off work to drive your aunt to medical appointments? If so, you are a caregiver.

We understand, your loved ones were there for you when you needed them. They planned for your future. Now, you’re the strong one helping to shape theirs. Choosing the right care for a family member who is frail or vulnerable due to age, illness, or injury is one of the most difficult decisions you can make.

Caring for someone with a disability can be deeply rewarding, but also exhausting, especially if you never get a break. That’s where Easterseals Alaska can help. Our respite services give caregivers the time they need to rest and recharge by providing trained staff who can step in temporarily.

Whether in your home or out in the community, our respite care is flexible, short-term, and personalized to meet your family’s unique needs, so you can take care of yourself while continuing to care for the ones you love.
