My name is Jackie Hansen, and I’ve had the pleasure of serving on the Easterseals Alaska Board of Directors for the last ten years. I’m a long-time Alaskan, having moved to Anchorage in 1984 from Cheyenne, Wyoming.
My sister was not only a non-profit advocate, but she dedicated her career to helping others, and although I lost her to bone cancer over 12 years ago, she taught me the importance of getting involved. After her passing, I was very fortunate to be asked to be on the board of directors. I knew I couldn’t pass up this wonderful opportunity to be involved with an organization whose mission statement is “to empower people with disabilities to live, learn, work, and play in their communities”.
I take my role as a board member very seriously, as it is important that this organization leaves a lasting effect on not only its employees but also their clients. As a board member, it’s exciting to me to have a part in that!
I have worked in the insurance industry most of my life. I have one son, and he and his wife have blessed me with 5 beautiful grandchildren. I, of course, enjoy spending time with my family as well as spoiling my Shih-Tzu….Hershey! I’m so grateful and thankful for an organization like Easterseals, and I am grateful to be able to serve on the board.
